A team of five North High School students won first place at the 2025 Long Island Physics Olympics, sponsored by the Long Island Physics Teachers’ Association (LIPTA). This year’s competition, held on March 20 at Farmingdale State College, featured 15 high school teams from Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The Physics Olympics is comprised of five events that challenge students’ knowledge and application of various physics principles. In addition to the North High team’s overall win, they also took first place in the “Fermi Questions” event and second place in the “Torque of the Town” challenge.

Members of North High’s Physics Olympics team are Serena Chen, Julian Elihu, Aiden Jin, Jacob Levine, and Zheng (James) Zhou. The faculty advisor is science teacher Alan Schorn.
