John L. Miller

North High School is named for former Great Neck superintendent, Dr. John Lewis Miller. Dr. Miller served as superintendent for 28 years between 1942 and 1970. Upon his retirement in 1970, North High School was renamed in his honor. 

 

Dr. Miller, a native of Quincy, MA, graduated from Bates College in Maine and later received both his master's and doctorate degrees from Harvard University. Dr. Miller's career in education spanned more than 30 years and his policies in the Great Neck school system brought him national attention.
